The Handsworth Funding and Fundraising Consortium is made up of four local organisations that cover the whole of the SRB6 area (and in other things we do a much larger area). The Consortium members are - The Asthan Babe Ke Trust, the Birmingham Bangladesh League, Reed Consultancies Ltd and The Scarman Trust. The Birmingham Bangladesh League (BBL) was formed in 1999. It is a Registered Charity and has a Resource Centre in Crompton Road where it provides free training and advice also supplementary education classes and home work clubs. BBL has good contacts with South Asian communities in the area and works closely with other voluntary and community organisations. The Asthan Babe Ke Trust has its base at Soho Hill and has been working in the area since 1995. This Charitable Trust is part of The Council of Sikh Gurdwaras and has excellent local contacts particularly with the Indian and Sikh Communities. Reed Consultancies was also formed in 1997, and is member of the Institute of Fund Raising and is experienced in training and fundraising for voluntary and community and faith based organisations. Rodney and Ann Reed and have worked for The Digbeth Trust, b:cen and a large number of voluntary organisations and community groups in the SRB6 area providing feasibility studies, business plans, bid writing and fund raising training. The Scarman Trust is a national charity with its Regional Office on the Soho Road. The Trust is committed to helping citizens bring about change in their community, in the way they want. The Trust has its own small grants programme locally and provides a wide range of services to the local community and BME Groups including 'peer support and forums, advocacy, Scarman has excellent links with formal and informal networks functioning within and around the SRB6 area.
